  • St. Francis Hospital and LifePoint Health reach milestone in proposed partnership.
    The St. Francis Hospital Board of Trustees and LifePoint Health today announced a significant milestone in their proposed partnership. The organizations have reached an agreement in principle for a subsidiary of LifePoint to acquire St. Francis Hospital, and they have submitted their agreement to the Attorney General of the State of Georgia for review and approval.

    Brentwood, TN – While the proposed partnership between LifePoint Health and St. Francis Hospital is still in a due diligence phase, St. Francis has been fully transparent with us in this process, and the recent audit report issued by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is consistent with our understanding of the related issues. Based on the report, we are confident that the steps St. Francis has taken and their continued efforts are proving effective.

  • Dr. Rajinder Chhokar to Receive Dr. Clarence C. Butler Service and Leadership Award
    Rajinder Chhokar, MD, will be honored as the 11th recipient of the Dr. Clarence C. Butler Service and Leadership Award at the St. Francis Foundation’s annual Butler Award gala Tuesday, January 27. As Columbus’ first female cardiologist, Dr. Chhokar has pioneered numerous advancements in cardiology during her 32 years of practice in Columbus.

    Recently the St. Francis Board of Trustees and CEO learned that financial information provided to them has been misstated. Revenues were overstated and expenses were understated in both the current and prior years’ financial information. As a result, the hospital will restate its financial statements.

  • St. Francis OB/GYN Associates’ Susan Epley, MD, Wins Statewide Physician Hero Award
    St. Francis Hospital’s Susan Epley, MD, was awarded the prestigious Georgia Hospital Heroes Physician Hero Award at the Georgia Hospital Association’s (GHA) Annual Meeting November 13. Dr. Epley, who was one of only 10 individuals statewide to receive the award, was recognized for her work with pregnant women in the community.

  • Dr. Sylvester McRae Performs Area’s First ‘Single-Site™’ Robotic Hysterectomy
    Dr. Sylvester McRae became the first surgeon in Columbus and the surrounding area to perform an entire hysterectomy using da Vinci® Single-Site™ platform for robotic surgery on May 27. Unlike traditional robotic surgery, which requires three to five small incisions, da Vinci® Single-Site™ technology enables surgeons to make a single incision in the belly button and remove the uterus in less than 60 minutes.

    St. Francis recently received Georgia Hospital Association’s (GHA) Team Innovations in Professional Practice (TIPP) Award for its project titled, ”Can You Hear Me Now?   • St. Francis Pledges $100,000 to Valley Healthcare
    St. Francis recently pledged $100,000 to Valley Healthcare System to expand women’s services, including obstetrical services, at the federally funded community health center on Ft. Benning Road. The center, which sees almost 9,000 patients annually, has faced the challenge of referring high-risk women advanced in their pregnancy to providers who will accept Medicaid.

Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls, ages 11-13, how to handle emergencies when caring for children.   • Dr. J. Bruce Carr to Receive Dr. Clarence C. Butler Service and Leadership Award
    J. Bruce Carr, MD, will be honored as the 10th recipient of the Dr. Clarence C. Butler Service and Leadership Award at the St. Francis Foundation’s annual Butler Award gala Tuesday, February 4. As Columbus’ first nephrologist, Dr. Carr is credited with bringing dialysis to Columbus, having established the area’s first outpatient dialysis clinic. From 2003-2013, he served as an intensivist and as critical care chief at St. Francis.
