Sleep Disorders Lab of St. Francis

State-of-the-art equipment, certified phsicians and technicians, excellent customer service and speedy results set the Sleep Disorders Lab (associated with the Patrick Heart Institute of St. Francis) apart from other similar facilities in the Columbus area. Dr. Bipin Patel, the lab's medical director, is a diplomat of the Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Several years ago, St. Francis doubled the size of its Sleep Disorders Lab to better serve the community. The Sleep Disorder Lab strives to provide final results within 7-10 days. For your convenience, studies are offered Monday-Friday and on weekend nights. Patients arrive for their study between 8 and 9 p.m. and can usually leave by approximately 6 a.m. the next morning.

Types of Polysomnographic Sleep Studies

  • Diagnostic Overnight PSG - General monitoring and evaluation
  • Diagnostic Daytime Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) - Measures the degree of daytime sleepiness and is used to diagnose narcolepsy; it is performed the morning after a Diagnostic Overnight PSG to ensure accurate results.
  • CPAP Titration - This study is performed if sleep apnea is discovered during the first night of monitoring and evaluation. The patient returns for a second night to determine the CPAP pressure required to alleviate apnea.
  • Split Night PSG with CPAP Titration - When moderate or severe sleep apnea is discovered or strongly suspected during the first part of the night's study, then the second half of the night is used for CPAP Titration.
